1. The project behind this Platform
This platform was developed under the project:
“Strengthening Regional Climate Resilience and Supporting Green Economic Recovery through Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) and Sustainable Livelihoods”
(EbA Caribbean Project, 2023–2026)
The project works in three coastal project areas across Antigua and Barbuda, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, focusing on specific sites where ecosystems and communities are particularly exposed to climate pressures. It strengthens climate resilience by restoring and protecting critical coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangroves, supporting sustainable and climate-resilient livelihoods — particularly for vulnerable groups, women, and youth — and improving access to practical knowledge on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA). By combining on-the-ground action with regional knowledge sharing, the initiative aims to reduce coastal risks, enhance community well-being, and support the wider uptake and scaling of effective EbA approaches across the region.
It is an initiative of the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) and is co-financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, through KfW.
Implemented by a consortium of partners:
- UNEP-WCMC
- Oracabessa Marine Trust (OMT)
- Integrated Health Outreach Inc. (IHO)
- Consorcio Ambiental Dominicano Inc. (CAD)
- Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC)
2. Purpose and vision of the EbA Knowledge Platform
This website is more than a project output — it is designed as a regional knowledge hub for Ecosystem-based Adaptation in the Caribbean.
While EbA is gaining global recognition, practical knowledge, evidence, and lessons learned in the Caribbean are often dispersed or difficult to access. This platform was created to help close that gap.
Its purpose is to:
- Bring together scientific evidence, field experience, and local knowledge in one accessible space
- Support learning and exchange across Caribbean countries
- Strengthen the evidence base on the social, environmental, and economic benefits of EbA
- Help practitioners design stronger, better-informed interventions
- Encourage collaboration across sectors and governance levels.
By improving access to reliable and practical information, the platform aims to support scaling up EbA approaches and strengthening climate resilience across the region.
Over time, it is intended to grow into a shared regional space where governments, communities, researchers, NGOs, and donors can connect, learn, and contribute.
3. Governance, management and sustainability
This platform is developed under the EbA Caribbean project and coordinated by the INTEC in collaboration with consortium partners.
INTEC oversees the overall coordination and management of the platform, while content is developed and curated jointly with implementing partners based on activities and results emerging from the three coastal project areas in Antigua and Barbuda, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
The platform is updated in line with project outputs and the generation of new knowledge, tools, and practical experiences related to Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in the Caribbean.
Following the completion of the project in 2026, the platform will continue to be hosted and maintained by INTEC, ensuring its continued accessibility and contribution to regional knowledge exchange on EbA.
